Question:
I have the layer 3 router and the rugged SOM paired. I have the connector pin placed (right justified) and can see power appropriately blink on both sides. I just can’t access the wrt homepage. I’m guessing this is a dip switch issue pointing to something that it shouldn’t be. I’ve verified that I can ping other devices on the 192.168.2.X/24 subnet through the rugged… Can’t ping 192.168.2.1. Thoughts?
Answer:
The issue is due to a contention between firmware that runs with SwitchBlox Rugged, and the management software on Rugged SOM.
SwitchBlox Rugged runs firmware that configures the chip in an unmanaged state; however when paired with Rugged SOM, the firmware on SwitchBlox Rugged “fights” with Rugged SOM, leading to what you see.
Ultimately this issue arose from the fact that SwitchBlox Rugged was developed first, and Rugged SOM is a later addon that is only now seeing adoption.
The solution is easy but it requires SwitchBlox Rugged to be flashed with empty firmware. If you have the hardware listed in the forum post below, you can do this yourself.
If not, we can arrange SwitchBlox Rugged units with empty firmware to be shipped to you, and you can return your units to us.
