What actually happens when I set an UbiSwitch port to work at a fixed speed?

When you manually set the UbiSwitch Port to operate at 100Mbps full duplex, does this mean?

  1. That you fully disable the ports “auto-negotiation” protocol.
  2. Make the port “auto-negotiate” to 100Mbps full duplex.

In answer to your question: technically we don’t disable auto negotiation but rather what is advertised (in this case to set to 100Mbps full-duplex). The effect is to ‘fix’ the port at 100Mbps per second when connected to 1000Mbps capable link partners (which also advertise 100Mbps full-duplex). Hence we don’t get the duplex mismatch you were perhaps worried about had auto-negotiation been disabled.
