BloxOs Release for Rugged SOM is out of beta!
Today, we announce the official launch of BloxOs, a distro for creating a Layer 2 managed switch with Rugged SOM + SwitchBlox Rugged. Available here!
Out of Beta
BloxOs addresses this challenge by offering a full networking suite of features at layer 2, including:
- 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch basic functions: address look-up table, MIB counters
- IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping for multicast packet filtering
- IPv6 multicast listener discovery (MLD) snooping
- Tag-based 802.1q VLAN
- Port-based VLANs
- Port and bridge-based management
- Port statistics
- PHY status and control
- OTA firmware updates over UART
- STP/RSTP
- MTU configuration
The underlying distro is based on the Linux kernel.
OTA updates
One of the common issues we had was customers flashing bare boards with our software. We will soon be flashing this software at the factory. Furthermore, any updates/security patches we release will not require flashing but instead be installable OTA. You can read more about it here.
What to do if you have a Rugged SOM board already?
You can flash it with our new software yourself (this will be the only time you’ll need to flash it, subsequent updates happen OTA as mentioned above), or you can send it back to us for flashing in our lab!
