SwitchBlox Industrial UART Connection CLI

  1. I cant connect to my switchblox industrial CLI. I attempted to use a FTD1232 to connect my switchblox to my PC, and then used Putty to connect to it, however when it powers up from the USB it doesn’t show anything in the putty terminal. I am confident about my wiring. I just purchased this switchblox, so I am assuming it came with the proper firmware.

  2. Switchblox Industrial (BB-SWI-D-1-NDAA)

  3. I am assuming the board came preflashed but I am unsure.

  4. Currently powering the board using 3.3V from the USB to TTL convertor.

  5. I connected the USB to TTL convertor to the RX, TX, 3V3, GND of the switchblox on the expansion header and connected to my PC using the USB. I used Putty with the proper Parameters: 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit (8-n-1)

Powering from UART is usually not enough. The switch has 2 chips - CPU and switch chip. When you power over UART, you usually power only the CPU, which is not enough. You should power the switch normally and do not connect the 3.3V on UART.

I just tried powering through the Voltage Input and still unable for anything to show up in the terminal. The power LED is turning green as well as the Ethernet IC LED.

Saw your email but saw there’s more info on this thread so let’s move the discussion here.

You converter looks fine, make sure you don’t connect the 3.3V from the converter to SwitchBlox Industrial. If you already did, don’t worry, it’s usually not an issue, but 3.3V on SwitchBlox Industrial is an output.

Make sure SwitchBlox Industrial is powered from a benchtop supply, anything from 5-60V. SwitchBlox Industrial

Putty should work just fine, can you confirm the baud rate was 115200bps?

Finally, to make sure the UART converter is working fine, connect TX and RX together on the converter and send some characters through putty. If you see the characters echo’d back, then you know your serial settings are correct and then we can narrow down the issue.

Ok, change of plan. We’ve just tested and seen that these units are not flashed with the firmware correctly!

This looks to be an issue with our CM!

We will flash and get a replacement sent out to you tomorrow, will follow up on email, sorry about this!
