Puck Edge FAQ: management, power, weight and included cables

Here are answers to common technical questions about Puck Edge, model BB-PKE-A-1, Rev A.

How is it managed?

Puck Edge runs BloxOSLite, configured through a CLI over 3.3 V TTL UART. There is no built-in web GUI or management over Ethernet. The UART is unisolated and is not compatible with 5 V or RS-232 voltage levels.

What management features are supported?

Puck Edge supports port-based and 802.1Q VLANs, link aggregation, and PHY/link status and configuration. Jumbo frames up to 10 KB are supported. It is a lightly managed Layer 2 switch rather than a router. STP and IGMP snooping are not supported.

What power consumption should I expect?

The published figures are 4 W idle and 11 W maximum. We measured 7.7 W at a 10 V supply with two 10G ports carrying traffic, a third 10G link active but idle, and four 1G ports carrying traffic. This is a mixed-load reference, not a guaranteed figure for every configuration.

How much does it weigh?

91 g without cables.

What cables are included?

  • 11 × BB-PCRJ1-8-0.3: PicoClasp to RJ-45 8-way data cables, 0.3 m.
  • 1 × BB-PCTL1-4-0.3: PicoClasp to tinned leads 4-way power cable, 0.3 m.

Please use this list rather than the older cable list in the preliminary PDF.

Are there configuration limitations?

The three multirate ports require the correct USXGMII configuration for mixed-speed operation. Disabling autonegotiation or forcing speed is supported on the eight 1G ports, but not on the three multirate ports.

Are any revisions planned?

As of October 20, 2026, the current model is BB-PKE-A-1, Rev A, with no upcoming revisions planned.

Where can I find more information?

See the Puck Edge datasheet and BloxOSLite documentation.
