Can I run GigaBlox SFP from 5V rail?

– Copied from customer email –

We are still using your GigaBlox SFP and are very happy about it.

However we noticed something that you might be aware of, but better to tell you.

In our configuration the power supply lower limit is not 5Vdc but 5.3Vdc.

This look nothing but we spent a little time trying to understand why the board was powered (LED on), the sfp LED was ON as well, but no communication on anyof the ethernet port (including SFP).

We were suppose to use it powered with a 5V 1350mA DC DC.

When we tried to power on with a adjustable we noticed that we got connexion when reaching 5.3Vdc.

I don’t know if this is known but maybe change the specs to says that is not working from 5V but 5.3V.

Glad our hardware is working well for you.

The specs do not say it works from 5V. The 5.5V - 60V input operates from minimum 5.5V. See datasheet page 8.

If you are using a clean, regulated 5V, you can use the auxilliary 5V input on GigaBlox SFP (page 10 on the datasheet) instead.
