Which chip on the GigaBlox – Small GigaBit Switch 5 port is the most important to cool? Which chip gets the hottest and is most critical for smooth operations?
Here’s some thermal images of GigaBlox with four out of five ports connected running 1Gbps networking on all four ports.
This main chip is the one that gets the hottest and is most critical to operation.
The chip is 10mm x 10mm. Most of our customers don’t put a heatsink on it, and we’ve run performance tests on this board up to 80°C for 30 minutes, no packet loss (test results here) But if you did want to, something like this (V2017B) would work.
