Do I need a heatsink for GigaBlox SFP

– Copied from customer query –

  1. In the image below, there was a small adhesive tape backed heatsink included. Is this part intended to be attached to the main processor?

  2. Our application puts GigaBlox into a sealed metallic enclosure; we have some concerns on the heat-sink not being properly coupled to the metal housing to pull the heat outside the enclosure. Do you know how many watts of heat are being dissipated by this component?

Yes the chip is for the main processor. The main processor puts out around 4W. You can actually run it without the heatsink, but it’s not good practice.
