We need a solution for putting a camera on a drone and transmitting the video down to the ground station. Trouble is, where the camera is to be placed, we only have two pins available. Would it be possible to use the SPEBlox (1GBASE-T1) - Tiny Single Pair Ethernet converter in the master/slave set up for this (and simply mount one of them with the camera)? I am asking because I see in the item description that a slave component can provide a power output of 5-45V, but when I read the full datasheet of the Tiny, I see the voltage output says “none.” Just wanted to confirm before I invested in anything.
On the data side, you can absolutely use SPEBlox to transmit 1Gbps. However you can’t extract any power from SPEBlox. I realised the diagram on the product page shows this, but this is incorrect, we’ve gone ahead and fixed that now.
In general, combining power and data on a single pair of wires is not easy. It is possible to achieve it using Power over Data Line (PoDL) but SPEBlox doesn’t support this. PoDL can achieve up to 50Watts of power delivery, though I personally haven’t seen a working implementation of this on the market yet.
Happy to help you find a solution here, if you tell me how long your cable is, what AWG it is, and how much power you need to deliver, I can assist you further.
