I’m designing a custom board and looking to connect a Microchip 1Gbps Ethernet Transceiver PN: KSZ9031RNX to one of the 1Gbps ports on your UbiSwitch, can this be done with capacitive coupling or are Ethernet magnetics required?
From Microchip “Many Microchip 1000BASE-T switches and PHYs have voltage-mode interfaces and on-chip termination, making those that do well suited to capacitive coupling when the two connected chips share the same ground and they are connected by PCB traces rather than a cable.”
The 1GBASE-T ethernet ports on UbiSwitch are also voltage mode, so they should work just fine capacitively coupled to your microchip PHY. Make sure both UbiSwitch and the microchip PHY share the same ground.
Of course, we can’t guarantee it will work without testing it, but I’d say the chances of it working are high. Let us know how you get on.
