# Which BotBlox Hardware is transformerless?

hi, before im ordering i saw in the GigaBlox Nano description a section about Transformerless Ethernet and how they don’t work well in systems without common ground.

does this also apply for the Small Ethernet Switch and Small GigaBit Switch?

These restrictions only apply to our boards that use transformerless ethernet. As of 11 November 2024, these boards are:

- [UbiSwitch](https://botblox.io/ubiswitch-module-3-x-10gbase-t-8-1gbase-t-switch/) (on its own that is. The two baseboards we sell ([UbiSwitch BaseBoard](https://botblox.io/ubiswitch-baseboard/) and [UbiSwitch BaseBoard Mini](https://botblox.io/ubiswitch-baseboard-mini/)) contain transformers, so as soon as you mate UbiSwitch with that, the restrictions no longer apply.

- [GigaBlox Nano](https://botblox.io/products/micro-gigabit-ethernet-switch). You can either mate it with a [GigaBlox Nano PicoConn](https://botblox.io/products/gigablox-nano-picoconn) board (which does not contain transformers), or with a [GigaBlox Nano RJConn](https://botblox.io/products/gigablox-nano-rjconn) board (which does contain transformers). So, whether the restrictions apply depend on what baseboard you use.

- [SPEBlox](https://botblox.io/products/tiny-single-pair-ethernet-converter). This uses transformerless ethernet on the 1000BASE-T side.

All our other products, including the two you mentioned ([SwitchBlox](https://botblox.io/products/small-ethernet-switch) and [GigaBlox](https://botblox.io/products/gigablox-small-gigabit-switch)), use transformers and thus operate without any of the restrictions of transformerless ethernet.
