# SPEBlox 1Gb viable through Gb capable sliprings?

Our designs make frequent use of standard 4 pair gigabit Ethernet via Moog slip rings made to handle same. Of course, SPE GigE involves higher frequencies than 4 pair signaling. Have the SPEBlox GigE boards been shown to work through slip rings? The TI chips involved obviously have remarkable signal processing and equalization but impedance discontinuities and possible cross channel interference may be beyond them. But if they do work, they would provide a terrific asset for designs we are working on.
If such tests have not been done, we are interested in ordering two so we can do so. Hooray for iperf3!

Hi Josh,
We have completed some initial testing with the SPEBlox over a slip ring and are generally impressed with the reliability and bandwidth capabilities. See the test setup and results below:
One concern we had was the robustness of the screw terminal in aviation environments. Are there any plans to conduct mil spec testing? specifically vibration? We would also be interested in ordering Rev E if the only change was the connector (pico)?

Glad to hear the testing went well.
We can still make the previous version, but the cost is higher and there is an MoQ. I’ve reached out via email with that information. You might consider…
- **De-solder the screw terminals** and solder the wires directly to the board. This is more work, but mechanically very robust.
- **Secure the existing screw-terminal wires with epoxy** or similar. Not as elegant, but it adds good strain relief without modifying the board.
We have conducted shock and vibe tests on this version, below is a link to the full results.
